Packaging Materials
The films and laminates Path Pack machines seal — what each layer does, and how structures are combined for different products.
How a flexible laminate is built
Almost no single film does everything a pack needs. A laminate combines layers: a sealing layer that welds shut under heat, a strength and print layer that carries the graphics, and — where the product demands it — a barrier layer against moisture, oxygen and light.
The right structure depends on the product: how sensitive it is, how hot it is at filling, how long it must survive on shelf, and how it is opened. The materials below are the standard building blocks.
The materials
PE — polyethylene
The workhorse sealing layer. A wide heat-sealing window makes it forgiving on the machine, and it forms the inner layer of most pouch structures.
PP — polypropylene
Higher temperature resistance than PE, which suits hot-filled products.
CPP — cast polypropylene
A soft, clear cast film used as a sealing layer in pouch laminates, combining good optics with hot-fill performance.
OPP — oriented polypropylene
Stiff, clear and a good moisture barrier — the typical outer and print layer for snack packaging.
PET — polyester
Strength and dimensional stability. A common print web that keeps the pack shape and graphics straight at speed.
PA (NY) — polyamide / nylon
Puncture and flex-crack resistance. The layer that protects structures filled with sharp-edged or heavy products.
VMPET / VMCPP — metallised films
A metallised coating adds light and oxygen barrier without full foil — the standard mid-barrier step for snacks, coffee and dry goods.
Foil laminates and foil paper bags
An aluminium foil layer gives the maximum barrier against aroma, moisture and oxygen, for long shelf life and sensitive products.
Which structure for which product
Dry snacks commonly run OPP/OPP or OPP/PET structures; powders and coffee move to metallised or foil laminates; sauces and liquids need a tougher combination such as PET or PA outside with PE or CPP sealing layers; medical products and wipes rely on foil laminates to protect sterility and moisture content.
The PP series seals pouches across PE, PP, CPP, OPP, PET, PA (NY), VMPET / VMCPP foil laminates and foil paper bags — the same list every machine page carries in its parameters. Bring your film structure and we will confirm sealing compatibility with your samples.
