Box Wrapping Machine
A box wrapping machine wraps a carton or rigid product in a tight film overwrap — the clear printed skin on a tea carton or confectionery box. Horizontal flow wrappers do this job: JC250 wraps boxes to 300 mm long, JC420 to 350 mm and wider films up to 430 mm.
Overwrapping with a flow wrapper
Box overwrap is flow wrapping applied to a rectangular product. The box travels on the infeed, film wraps around it, a fin seal closes underneath, and end seals cut and close each end. Done tightly, the film becomes a second skin — print registration keeps artwork aligned on the box face.
The same machine that wraps boxes also wraps any rigid product: trays, multipacks of sachets, stationery sets, hardware cards. Box wrapping is a format question, not a separate machine category.
Film choices for box overwrap
Clear BOPP — the default; shows the printed carton underneath while adding scuff and moisture protection.
Printed BOPP with registration — decorative banding or full printed overwrap with artwork locked to the box face.
Polyolefin shrink alternatives — where a heat tunnel already exists, shrink film overwrapping and flow wrapping compete on the same look; flow wrapping runs faster and needs no tunnel.

How to choose
- Box dimensions — film width must cover box height plus box width plus fin; the JC250 and JC420 pages list exact pack envelopes.
- Seal appearance — tight, wrinkle-free overwrap depends on film tension control and box squareness; poorly made boxes wrinkle any wrapper.
- Print registration — printed overwrap needs a registration mark and photo-eye setup on the machine.
- Output — boxes are heavy for their size compared with food items; confirm the machine speed at your box weight.
- Multipack layout — decide whether boxes wrap individually, in twos and threes, or go into a printed bag.
Frequently asked questions
Can a flow wrapping machine wrap boxes?
Yes — box overwrap is a standard flow wrapping application. The pack envelope of the JC250 covers boxes up to 300 mm long and the JC420 up to 350 mm, with film widths to 240 and 430 mm respectively.
Box wrapping vs shrink wrapping — which is better?
Shrink wrapping needs a heat tunnel and looser film; flow wrapping seals tightly around the box at higher speed with no tunnel. For printed cartons where presentation matters, flow-wrapped overwrap usually looks cleaner.
How much does a box wrapping machine cost?
Flow wrappers for box overwrap price like any flow wrapper — by film width, speed and options. Send box dimensions and output target for a written quotation.
Can it wrap gift boxes and rigid boxes?
Yes — rigid rectangular boxes are core flow-wrap work, from confectionery boxettes to gift and perfume boxes. The check is dimensional: box length and height plus film fold against the machine’s pack envelope and film width.
What about cellophane wrapping for boxes?
Coated cellophane and BOPP both run as heat-sealable overwrap films on the same wrapper. Traditional fold-over cellophane wrappers are a separate machine style with tucked folds; flow wrapping gives the same tight printed skin at higher speed.
